Luego de muchos años de éxito tocando y grabando en la zona de Detroit, a mediados de la década de 1960, Seger alcanzó estatus de estrella a mediados de la década de 1970 y su fama se extendió durante la década de 1980 con la Silver Bullet Band. Posee una voz rasposa clásica, que utiliza gritando, Seger se inspiró en Little Richard y Elvis Presley. Rambling Gamblin Man fue uno de sus primeros éxitos.
